Tech Titans In Bermuda
Paradise Mobile is blazing a new trail - boldly going where no man (or woman) has gone before, as we build our wireless network in Bermuda. And to ensure success - and the highest quality experience for our customers - we’ve enlisted the help of some titans of the industry…including Amazon Wireless Services (AWS). Yes, that Amazon.
We admit it: we’re geeking out. Because as well as being leaders in the field, AWS shares our vision for the future - and together, we know we can speed up the rollout of new products and services in Bermuda.
We’re creating our network in a brand new way, using something called Open RAN (a virtual pat on the back if you know what that means) and building from the ground up. Not just adding onto what’s already here - which frankly might have been easier in the short term; but would have brought with it lots of the stuff you don’t like about your wireless network right now.
The most important thing, though, is that it will be based in the cloud (the digital kind, rather than cumulus). Which means it’ll be more flexible and scalable, and will allow for more collaboration.
AWS is providing the cloud environment in which our network will thrive. And their cloud system will make it easier than ever to create a proper support infrastructure for the Internet of Things (IoT) industry here in Bermuda.
This means that local businesses and innovators will have the tools to interface with our high-speed network to rapidly develop, test and deploy cutting edge products and services. They’ll also have the ability to process and analyse vast amounts of data in real-time, so they can create new products and services – making Bermuda a lodestar for innovators.
We realise this is all a bit technical, but it’s important. 5G is still so new that everyone is trying to figure out what to do with it. With every leap forward in network speeds comes a new wave of lifestyle changing technology. With 4G, it was Uber. What will 5G bring? Maybe Bermuda will be the place where we find out.
